Better detectors for exploring the universe
Developing new generations of detectors with improved performance for astronomical observation, at the limit of sensitivity, faster, over broader spectral bands or that offer new functionalities.

Challenges

  • Develop the highest performing detectors for astrophysics.
  • Combine the best expertise across the entire detection chain: principle/technology – process characterization – instrumental systems.
  • Support the instrumentation of very large ground and space equipment: extremely wide telescope, the ESA’s Cosmic Vision missions.
  • Develop European networks for the next generations of powerful detectors in the world-class technological context of Grenoble: new mm/submm technologies (KIDs and ?-bolometers) and industrial production capacities at the highest level for infrared.
